This piece evokes happy childhood memories of searching for 'treasures' in the rock pools on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. After many years away, a trip back to the region allowed me to reconnect with this beautiful place. It was such a wonderful time of rediscovery.
My aim was to capture the colourful jewell-like quality of the shallow rock pools. To achieve this, I layered multiple colours of ink, allowing each to flow freely with the addition of water. The result is a beautiful transparent representation of a shallow pool and the rocks and weed within. This is contrasted with the rugged, barren cliffs that fall away to the sea. while sweeping clouds fill the magnificent blue expanse above.
Created using ink, acrylic paint and charcoal on a cradled wooden board, this piece is signed on the front, varnished with a satin UV protecting varnish and wired ready to hang.
