An inland gorge waterhole — red and violet rock faces rising on either side, a luminous pool reflecting the sky below, a solitary eucalyptus leaning into the frame. This is Central Australian or inland South Australian country rendered with deep familiarity — the particular quality of permanent water in ancient red stone, a place that has been known and returned to across many lifetimes. The title carries a feminine quality that runs through several works in this collection — the landscape as something that holds rather than simply exists.
