Banksia cones glow gold against a deep cobalt sky, lit as though from within, the last warm light of the day caught in their bristling spires. Serrated leaves twist and catch pale highlights along the branches, while the shadowed lower half of the canvas sinks into indigo and umber.
The tall, upright format draws the eye skyward through a tangle of woody stems and rust-toned bark. Loose, confident brushwork keeps the forms suggested rather than described, letting light and shadow do the work.
A striking study in contrast, the warmth of the banksia against the cool depth of evening, and one of the quiet spectacles of the Australian bush at day's end.
