This painting came from reflecting on how little stays the same at the coast. The dunes are always moving, built and unmade by the wind, keeping no record of the footprints or the shapes that were there the day before. I find something peaceful in that rather than sad, a reminder that nothing needs to be held onto. I wanted it to feel open and quiet, with the sea close by and the sand slowly letting everything go. If it gives you a moment of stillness or reflection, or makes you want to stand at the edge of the sea and breathe out, then it is doing what I hoped.
