Bottlebrush blooms (Callistemon) burst across the canvas in a diagonal rush of scarlet and vermilion, their cylindrical flower spikes tangled among slender leaves and dark, gestural strokes. Warm ochre light pools in the upper corner, suggesting late afternoon sun filtering through the foliage.
Painted with palette knife and brush, the thick impasto blooms sit against loose, scraped layers of green and umber — a study in contrast between what reveals itself and what stays half-hidden in the branches. Flashes of white and pale gold catch the light where new growth emerges.
