A coastal dune path leads the eye through scrubby vegetation toward a sliver of teal ocean, above which an extraordinary violet-blue sky dominates nearly half the canvas. This is a painting about atmospheric light — that particular quality of overcast coastal illumination that turns the sky violet and makes everything below it glow with quiet intensity.
