Acrylic, ink and charcoal on canvas 90 x 120cm
A pale, luminous coastal dune surface under soft overcast light — one of the most quietly resolved works in this collection. The vast foreground sand is modulated with extraordinary subtlety, warm creams and cool blue-grey shadows describing the wind-shaped surface with an economy of mark that rewards slow looking. Thin charcoal lines wander across the lower passages describing dried plant stems and wind traces — the most delicate drawing in any of the dune works. The title names an absence rather than a presence, which is precisely what the painting does.
Varnished, wired and presented in a natural Tasmanian Oak floating frame.
